Bob Moses

Robert Laurence "Bob" Moses (also Rahboat Ntumba) (born January 28, 1948 in Brooklyn , New York) is an American jazz drummer.

Moses is the son of press agent Richard Moses and his wife Greta. Due to the acquaintances of his father, he played regularly in jam sessions with Charles Mingus , but also with Max Roach, as a teenager . In 1965 he was on a European tour with Rahsaan Roland Kirk . From 1966 he played with Jim Pepper and Larry Coryell in the early jazz rock band Free Spirits . In 1968 he switched to Gary Burton's quartet . He then played with Michael Gibbs , Pat Metheny and Jaco Pastorius ; he has also performed with Billy Martin , John Medeski and Chris Wood . On his own albums he worked regularly with the singer Jeanne Lee , but also with Sheila Jordan and Abbey Lincoln . He now calls himself Ra Kalam , a name given to him by his spiritual mentor Bhapuji Tisziji Muñoz.

He is currently a lecturer at the New England Conservatory of Music .
