Nilson Matta

Nilson Matta (born March 1, 1949 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian jazz musician ( double bass , electric bass , synthesizer ) and composer living in the United States .

Live and act

Matta came to Rio de Janeiro to study bass in 1970 and worked from the early 1980s with musicians such as João Bosco , Hermeto Pascoal , Chico Buarque and Luis Bonfa . After moving to New York in 1985 he played a. a. with Paquito D'Rivera , Don Pullens African-Brazilian Connection ( Kele Mou Bana 1992), Paul Winter / Oscar Castro-Neves ( Brazilian Days 1998), Kenny Barron , Cyro Baptista , Joe Henderson and Yo-Yo Ma . With Romero Lubambo and Duduka da Fonseca he formed the Trio da Paz in 1989 , which later accompanied Maucha Adnet . In 2006 he recorded the album Encontros (Meetings) in a duo with Hendrik Meurkens , and guest musicians such as Dado Moroni joined them . In the field of jazz Matta took part in 68 recording sessions between 1980 and 2017; He performed with Steve Wilson and singer Leny Andrade in 2013 with the program Black Orpheus , inspired by Antônio Carlos Jobim's film soundtrack for Orfeu Negro from 1959.

Matte, Hèlio Alves and Duduka Da Fonseca together form the Brazilian Trio , which has been on stage with the German vibraphonist Wolfgang Lackerschmid since 2014.
