Jamaaladeen Tacuma (* 11. June 1956 in Hempstead , New York as Rudy McDaniel ) is an American jazz musician ( bass , composer ).

Live and act

Tacuma grew up in Philadelphia and played with organist Charles Earland as a teenager . At the age of 19 he began to work with Ornette Coleman in his formation Prime Time . From Dancing In Your Head (1976) to Of Human Feelings and In All Languages (1987) he was involved in all of the group's records. Tacuma recorded several records under his own name, including Coleman et al. a. Anthony Davis , Julius Hemphill and Olu Dara participated. But he was also involved in various Kip Hanrahan projects and repeatedly plays with Wolfgang Puschnig (e.g. on Alpine Aspects ), but also in projects around Christy Doran and Fredy Studer or Jan Kuiper . His collaboration with James Blood Ulmer on the album Tales Of Captain Black was also unforgettable . According to the All Music Guide , the album Mirakle , on which Tacuma can be heard with drummer Calvin Weston and guitarist Derek Bailey , is one of the "most important recordings of year 2000". In 2006 he worked with the World Saxophone Quartet together (Political Blues) , with whom he also in a 2009 Hendrix program at the Jazz Festival Frankfurt occurred. He also worked as a music producer for Simone Kopmajer ( The Best in You ).

Tacuma's playing is characterized by funk and Coleman's harmonic conception.
