Wolter Wierbos

Wolter Wierbos (* 1. September 1957 in Holten , Netherlands ) is a Dutch jazz - trombone .

Live and act

Since 1979 he has played in a wide variety of music groups: Cumulus (with Ab Baars ), JC Tans & Rockets , the Theo Loevendie Quintet , the Guus Janssen Septet , Loos ( Peter van Bergen ) and the Maarten Altena Ensemble . For years Wierbos played successfully in the Podium Trio ( Jan Kuiper and Paul van Kemenade ), which took its name from the Podiumprijs of the same name . He formed his own band, Celebration of Difference, and has been involved in theater, dance, television and film projects.

He currently has a solo project Wollo's World , which he designs in different ways - from performances with the dancer Marije Nie and the bassist Wilbert de Joode to a quartet with Misha Mengelberg , Mats Gustafsson and Wilbert de Joode. He also has a trio with Eckard Koltermann and Paul van Kemenade.

He also plays in Misha Mengelberg's Instant Composers Pool -Orchestra, the quintet by Gerry Hemingway ( Demon Chaser 1993), Franky Douglas ' Sunchild , Bik Bent Braam , Albrecht Maurers Trio Works , Nocando, Carl Ludwig Hübsch's Longrun Development of the Universe , the quartet by Frank Gratkowski , Available Jelly and Sean Bergin's group MOB .

Wierbos has performed in Europe, North America and Asia. He has also played with Henry Threadgill , with the Berlin Contemporary Jazz Orchestra (under Alexander von Schlippenbach ), with Cecil Taylor , with the John Carter Project and the Mingus Big Band . He has appeared as a guest musician with The Ex , Sonic Youth and Gruppo Sportivo as well as with the Nieuw Ensemble led by Ed Spanjaard .

Wierbos has received several awards, in particular the Podiumprijs for jazz and improvised music and in 1995 the very prestigious Dutch VPRO / Boy Edgar Prize .
