Peter JA van Bergen (* 1957 in Tubbergen ) is a Dutch saxophonist who specializes in free jazz and contemporary music . The head of Studio Loos has also emerged as a composer.

Act

Van Bergen studied from 1980 to 1985 at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and from 1990 to 1992 with Evan Parker . In 1982 he founded LOOS as an ensemble that combines acoustic and electronic music with dance , theater and visual media.

From 1984 to 1986 he was a member of Louis Andriessen's music ensemble Hoketus . In 1985 he became a member of the Maarten Altena Ensemble . In addition, he stepped u. a. with the European Improvisers Orchestra , the John Carter Project and Cecil Taylor's European Orchestra . In 2003 he presented himself with King Übü Örchestrü at the Total Music Meeting . He is currently part of David Kweksilber's big band . Other musical partners included a. Misha Mengelberg , Anthony Braxton , Han Bennink , John Zorn , Ikue Mori , Arto Lindsay , George Lewis , Derek Bailey , Günter Christmann and Radu Malfatti . He is the head of the International Institute for Improvisation . Van Bergen took part in the world premiere of Guus Janssen's opera Noach and performed compositions by Louis Andriessen, Georg Katzer , Huib Emmer , Cornelis de Bondt and Paul Termos .

Prizes and awards

In 1987 van Bergen was awarded the Dutch Podium Prijs . The Ensemble Loos received the Ooeyevaer Prijs for New Music from the city of The Hague in 1985 and the GeNeCoPrijs from the Dutch composers in 2000 .
