Günter Christmann (* 29. November 1942 in Srem ) is a German free jazz - trombone player , bassist , cellist and composer and multimedia - dramaturge .

Christmann played in the international free jazz scene since the late 1960s, was a trombonist a. a. Member of the ensembles of Rüdiger Carl and Peter Kowald , worked for a long time in a duo with the drummer Detlef Schönenberg and from 1973 to 1986 in the Globe Unity Orchestra . The first recordings for the free jazz label FMP were made in the early 1970s . Later he also played with Maarten Altena and Michel Waisvisz . In 1979 he founded the project Vario , an improvisation ensemble with changing line- ups , which still exists today . a. with Phil Minton , Maggie Nicols , Sven-Åke Johansson , Christian Munthe , Thomas Lehn , Alexander Frangenheim , Axel Dörner . From 1987 to 1994 he was a member of Wolfgang Fuchs ' King Übü Orchestra . Under the name Carte Blanche he performed with bassist Torsten Müller .
