Fennesz , actually Christian Fennesz (born December 25, 1962 in Vienna ), is an Austrian musician who lives alternately in Vienna and Paris.

Life

Fennesz was initially a guitarist, including in the independent band Maische. In the mid-1990s he began making laptop- based electronic music as a soloist . He was associated with the Viennese label Mego for a long time . His breakthrough came in 2001 with the album Endless Summer , after which he switched to the British label Touch . The song Caecilia on the album was selected in 2020 by the pop culture magazine The Gap as part of the AustroTOP ranking at number 12 of the “100 most important Austrian pop songs”.

Fennesz regularly works in cooperation, together with Peter Rehberg and Jim O'Rourke he forms the trio Fenn O'Berg, with Zeitblom the duo Golden Tone and with Christof Kurzmann the formation Orchester 33 1/3 as well as other, partly short-lived collaborations. Among other things, Fennesz works both in the studio and live with Ryūichi Sakamoto . David Sylvian sang on Fennesz's album Venice and interpreted the Fennesz piece A Fire in the Forest on his album Blemish . Fennesz regularly composes music for ballets, installations and films.

A typical feature of his style are samples based on electric guitar sounds . His music can be loosely assigned to the Clicks & Cuts genre.
