Albrecht Maurer (born November 29, 1959 in Aachen ) is a German violinist and composer .

Act

Albrecht Maurer studied violin at the Cologne University of Music and took part in workshops by Johannes Fritsch and Klarenz Barlow . As a keyboard player, singer and violinist, he was active in the Cologne jazz band Heinz in 1986 and then founded the Duo Directors with Thomas Witzmann. At the same time he was part of Norbert Stein's Pata Orchestra .

On the one hand, he plays the Gothic fiddle with the flutist Norbert Rodenkirchen and Katarina Livljanic in the field of early music , but also interprets contemporary music on the medieval instrument . Since 2005 he has been a permanent member of the Paris ensemble Dialogos. Here he also plays a Rebec and a Lijerica .

As a violinist, on the other hand, he plays in various projects and groups in jazz and improvisation music such as the Kent Carter String Trio or with Lucian Ban & John Hébert . Maurer has worked with Theo Jörgensmann , Bobo Stenson , Charlie Mariano , Wolter Wierbos , Eckard Koltermann , Lauren Newton , Benoît Delbecq , Manos Tsangaris , Barre Phillips , Harald Kimmig , Lucian Ban and (on the occasion of the Essen performance of Escalator Over The Hill ) also with Carla Bley worked together. In 2008 he founded the Trio Hot with Theo Jörgensmann and the Belgian double bass player Peter Jacquemyn . He plays with Bassem Hawar in the duo Crossover Bagdad Cologne .

In 2014 he and Norbert Rodenkirchen were nominated for the German Record Critics' Award with the CD Loplop's Call .

He runs the Nemu-records label with Klaus Kugel . With Norbert Stein he designed the concert series Musiklabor Köln at the Kunsthaus Rhenania until 2015 ; He currently runs the Chamber Remix concert series .
