Klaus Kugel (born July 6, 1959 ) is a German jazz musician ( composer and drummer ) of modern creative jazz .

Live and act

Kugel was trained at the Munich Jazz School. At first he belonged to the group Nightwork with Dizzy Krisch and Klaus Roggors . Then he worked as a studio musician and with musicians from the Cologne scene such as Reiner Winterschladen , Roger Hanschel , Christian Ramond , Dieter Manderscheid and Christian Bollmann . In 1986 he became a member of the Michel Pilz / Itaru Oki Quartet. Since 1989 he has been working with the Lithuanian saxophonist Petras Vyšniauskas in various international formations, and since 1994 he has been part of the quartet of Theo Jörgensmann ( Snijbloemen , 1999). He has also worked with musicians such as Tomasz Stańko , Zbigniew Namysłowski , Perry Robinson , Wolter Wierbos , Charlie Mariano , Karl Berger , Steve Swell , Robert Dick , Arkady Shilkloper , Sirone , Burton Greene , Vijay Iyer , John Lindberg , Herb Robertson , Paweł Postaremczak , Wacław Zimpel or Bobby Few worked. Since 1999 he and Petras Vysniauskas have been a member of Vyacheslav Ganelin's Ganelin Trio Priority . He was in 2007 and 2008 a. a. on tour with Charles Gayle , Roy Campbell , Hilliard Greene and Jemeel Moondoc . With Ken Vandermark and Mark Tokar he forms the trio The Escalators .
