Clarence "Herb" Robertson (born February 21, 1951 in Plainfield , New Jersey ) is an American jazz trumpeter .

Live and act

In addition to the trumpet , Robertson also plays the pocket trumpet , cornet , valve trombone and flugelhorn . He's been an important part of New York's downtown scene since the 1980s . At first he was noticed as part of Tim Berne's band Chaos Totale for his unpredictable, seemingly fluttering and yet always coherent contributions. He is known in Germany for his leading role in the recorded jazz fairy tale Die kleine Trumpet by Stefan F. Winter. He also worked with Charlie Haden , Mark Helias , David Sanborn , Marc Ducret and Bobby Previte . He has also made recordings with his own groups, including Shades of Bud Powell by the Herb Robertson Brass Ensemble.
