David "Dave" Taylor (born June 6, 1944 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American bass trombonist of new music and modern jazz .

Live and act

Taylor received classical instrumental training; After completing his bachelor's and master's degree at the Juilliard School of Music , he became a member of the American Symphony Orchestra under Leopold Stokowski , but also performed with the New York Philharmonic , where he performed new music under Pierre Boulez . He also worked with Duke Ellington ( The New Orleans Suite ) and Mike Gibbs / Gary Burton ( In the Public Interest ) and Stanley Clarke . From 1974 he also belonged to the Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Orchestra and was involved as a studio musician on recordings by Lalo Schifrin , Gato Barbieri , Jimmy McGriff and the Brecker Brothers . He also recorded with the Rolling Stones and Blood, Sweat & Tears ( More Than Ever ).

As a solo trombonist, he presented several albums and performed with numerous classical orchestras, such as the Eos Orchestra, the NY Chamber Symphony, Orpheus, and the St. Lukes Chamber Orchestra; he interpreted Sequence V by Luciano Berio ; Alan Hovhaness , Charles Wuorinen ( Archæopteryx ), George Perle , Frederic Rzewski , Lucia Dlugoszewski and Eric Ewazen wrote for him. In the jazz field he belonged to the orchestras of Gil Evans , George Russell , John Tropea , Carla Bley and the George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band . He currently appears with the Mingus Big Band , Michel Camilo , Bob Mintzer , in the trio he played with Daniel Schnyder , Adam Taubitz , and Kenny Drew Jr. He also performed with Yo-Yo Ma , Itzhak Perlman , Barbra Streisand , Miles Davis ( Miles & Quincy Live at Montreux ), Quincy Jones , Frank Sinatra and Aretha Franklin .

Taylor has appeared on numerous Grammy- winning albums and is a faculty member at the Manhattan School of Music and the Mannes College of Music .
