Chip Jackson

Charles Melvin "Chip" Jackson (born May 15, 1950 in Rockville Center , New York ) is an American bassist of fusion and modern jazz .

Live and act

Jackson studied at Berklee College of Music from 1970 to 1973 . During this time he played with Herb Pomeroy , John LaPorta , Gary Burton (1972/73), Jeremy Steig and John Abercrombie . 1973/74 he was a member of the Thundering Herd from Woody Herman , with whom he toured Europe and Canada and recorded the album Thundering Herd, Live At Montreux . In the following years he worked with Chuck Mangione , Horace Silver , Stan Getz , the Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Orchestra , with Elvin Jones , Al DiMeola and Red Rodney . In the 1990s he was a. a. with the Manhattan Jazz Quintet in Europe and belonged to the bands of Elvin Jones, Roy Haynes and Billy Taylor (from 1994). He also formed a duo with Larry Willis and the Contempo Trio with Mark Soskin and Danny Gottlieb , which released the album No Jamf's Allowes in 1996 . In 1999 he put his debut album Is There a Jackson in the House? with Dave Kikoski and Billy Hart . Jackson has also made recordings for Jack Walrath , Mike Clark , Joe Beck , Bill Washer, David Janeway, Ravi Coltrane , Grady Tate , Ronny Cuber, Sonny Fortune , Ernestine Anderson , Natalie Merchant , the Central Park Kids and the Manhattan Jazz Orchestra . In the field of jazz he was involved in 132 recording sessions between 1974 and 2012.
