Mark Dresser (born September 26, 1952 in Los Angeles ) is an American double bass player and composer . He has further developed the playing techniques of the bass instrument.

Dresser graduated from the University of California, San Diego , where he studied double bass with Bertram Turetzky and then with Franco Petracchi . During his training he played with musicians such as David Murray and Arthur Blythe . Mark Dresser has worked in solo projects as well as in various ensembles on the New York jazz scene since 1972 .
