Andrew Cyrille (born November 10, 1939 in the Bronx , New York City ) is an American jazz drummer.

Live and act

After taking private lessons with Philly Joe Jones , among others , he worked with Roland Hanna , Illinois Jacquet and Roland Kirk from the late 1950s . From 1965 he played in Cecil Taylor's group for ten years . He then founded his own group with David S. Ware , performed at the Wildflowers Loft Sessions in 1976 , toured with Carla Bley and played with Anthony Braxton's ensembles . Marilyn Crispell , Reggie Workman , Horace Tapscott and David Murray . He continued to record with James Newton , Peter Brötzmann , Richard Teitelbaum and Irène Schweizer .

Abstraction goes into his playful conception as well as conventional jazz and music influenced by Africa. He is a drummer who always thinks compositionally and keeps track of what is happening in music.
