Gerry Hemingway
Gerry Hemingway (born March 23, 1955 in New Haven , Connecticut ) is an American jazz drummer .

Hemingway studied at Wesleyan College and Yale University . In the mid-1970s in New Haven, he began working with trombonist George Lewis , pianist Anthony Davis and trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith . Together with Mark Helias and Ray Anderson he formed a working band, but also recorded his record Soloworks in 1974 , which early on documented his advanced handling of sophisticated percussion technique and timing (three other recordings solo so far).
Hemingway also worked with Marilyn Crispell in a duo and with her and Anthony Braxton in a quartet. For many years he has had a trio with pianist Georg Graewe and cellist Ernst Reijseger ( The View from Points West 1991), as well as a quintet with Reijseger, Wolter Wierbos , Michael Moore and Mark Dresser ( Demon Chaser , 1993 on HatHut ); he also plays regularly in projects by Frank Gratkowski such as Double Blues Crossing (2003) and by Judi Silvano . He also works in duos, e.g. B. with Thomas Lehn , Earl Howard or John Butcher . There was also a collaboration with Derek Bailey , Oliver Lake , Kenny Wheeler , Cecil Taylor , Don Byron , Rozanne Levine , John Cale , Celine Rudolph , Terrence McManus , Hank Roberts and Simon Nabatov ( Luminous ).
