Terrence McManus

Terrence McManus (* in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American jazz guitarist who works in the spectrum from modern creative , free jazz to improvised music .

Live and act

McManus grew up in New Jersey and Connecticut and attended the Greater Hartford Academy of Performing Arts, where he studied jazz and improvisation with Dave Santoro. During this time he worked with musicians from the Hartford music scene such as Steve Davis and Jimmy Greene . He then graduated from William Paterson University, where he a. a. studied with Vic Juris and Gene Bertoncini . In the following years he played in various constellations in the New York jazz scene a. a. with Scott Amendola , Tim Berne , Kermit Driscoll , Marty Ehrlich , Bill Frisell , Mat Maneri , Herb Robertson , Tyshawn Sorey , Nate Wooley and John Zorn .

In his trio Firstborn he plays in a trio with Ellery Eskelin and Mark Helias . In 2007 his album Live at the Clown Lounge was released as a quartet . The duo album Below the surface of was created with Gerry Hemingway in 2010 ; as a soloist he presented the EP Brooklyn . In 2011 he recorded the trio album Transcendental Numbers with Gerry Hemingway and Mark Helias . In 2006 he founded the label Flattened Planet. In 2012 he works in a trio with Ben Monder and Ches Smith .
