Ellery donkey
Ellery Eskelin (born August 16, 1959 in Wichita , Kansas ) is an American tenor saxophonist , composer and band leader of free and creative jazz and new improvisation music .

Ellery Eskelin grew up in Baltimore , Maryland in a musical family. He has lived in New York since 1983, where he became an important figure in the experimental jazz scene in the 1990s. He has made guest appearances with various ensembles in Europe, Canada and the United States; Since the late 1980s he has recorded a number of albums as a band leader, including a. for the Swiss hatOLOGY label. His most important works have been created since 1994 with the keyboardist Andrea Parkins and the drummer Jim Black (for example the album One Geat Day from 1996). Eskelin worked with musicians such as Joey Baron , Mark Helias , Gerry Hemingway , Marc Ribot , David Liebman , Han Bennink , Sylvie Courvoisier , Gebhard Ullmann , Rabih Abou-Khalil , Terrence McManus , Devin Gray ( Dirigo Rataplan II , 2018) and Daniel Humair together . In the 1980s he founded the formation Joint Venture with Paul Smoker and the September Trio with Harris Eisenstadt .
Eskelin's style has its roots in jazz; In his works, composed and improvised elements are combined, which, according to the description of the " down beat ", defy any categorization.
