Justus Alexander Saxer

Justus Alexander Saxer (born November 21, 1801 in Dorum , † September 19, 1875 in Stade ) was a German Lutheran theologian and general superintendent of the General Diocese of Bremen-Verden .

Life

Saxer was a son of the pastor Georg Ludwig Saxer in Selsingen . After attending primary school in Selsingen, he came to the Stader Gymnasium, where the then Vice-Principal Sattler had a significant influence on him. He studied philosophy and theology in Göttingen , where he became a member of the Corps Bremensia . In 1822 he became a high school teacher in Stade, in 1829 second pastor and rector, in 1839 first pastor in Dorum , where his father had already been a pastor. In 1844 he came to Debstedt as a pastor . In 1847 he was appointed superintendent of the Lehe inspection. After the death of the Consistorial Councilor von Hanffstengel, he became Consistorial Councilor in Stade in 1857. From 1860 he was General Superintendent of the General Diocese of Bremen-Verden, which had its official seat in Stade. After suffering a stroke in September 1874, he was retired on April 1, 1875 at his own request.

Saxer was one of the founders of the North German Mission Society .
