Wacław Zimpel (born July 27, 1983 in Poznan ) is a Polish jazz and improvisation musician ( clarinet , bass clarinet ).

Live and act

Zimpel attended the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Music Academy in Poznan, where he had lessons in classical clarinet from Zdzisław Nowak. He then studied at the Hanover University of Music and Drama with Johannes Peitz and worked from the mid-2000s a. a. with Tim Daisy , Klaus Kugel , Hamid Drake , Steve Swell , Dave Rempis , Joe McPhee or Mark Tokar . His career in Poland began with the trio The Light with Wojtek Traczyk (bass) and Robert Rasz (drums), with whom he recorded two albums. From 2010 he played with Ken Vandermark , Keefe Jackson and Mikołaj Trzaska . He is or was the leader of the bands Hera , which u. a. recorded a live album with Hamid Drake, Undivided (with Bobby Few and Perry Robinson ), the Polish-German Wacław Zimpel Quartet (with Krzysztof Dys , Christian Ramond and Klaus Kugel), the nine- piece ToTu Orchestra and the LAM trio ; he also worked with the percussion ensemble Saagara and the Clarinet Quartet Ircha by Mikołaj Trzaska. In the field of jazz he was involved in nine recording sessions between 2008 and 2013. Zimpel's first solo album, Lines , was released in 2016 .

He was awarded the Paszport Polityki in the category “Popular Music” for 2016. He wrote the music for the film Cicha noc by Piotr Domalewski , which won the 2017 Polish Film Festival .
