Krzysztof Dys (born May 14, 1982 in Koszalin ) is a Polish jazz musician ( piano , composition ).

Live and act

Dys comes from a musical family; his father was an accordionist. As a teenager he took part in jazz workshops. He accompanied the programs of the cabaret artist Zenon Laskowik and graduated from the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Music Academy in Poznan in the class of Professor Annaorganzczak. Since 2007 he worked as an assistant at this university. The main inspiration for Dys is the work of the Russian composers Scriabin , Prokofiev , American artists such as Bill Evans and Miles Davis and, last but not least, the Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz .

Since 2002 Dys has been part of Maciej Kociński's Soundcheck quartet (with Anrdzej Święs and Krzysztof Szmańda); the band has released six albums so far. With the same rhythm section he formed his own trio ( Toys 2016). With his trio he accompanied the clarinetists Michael Marcus and Theo Jörgensmann ( Elements in Candor , 2013). Dys played in a duo with the trumpeter Maciej Fortuna . Her album Tropy was well received by audiences and critics. With the Maciej Fortuna Quartet (with Jakub Mielcarek and Przemysław Jarosz) he toured internationally with the project Jazz from Poland and released the album Lost Keys , which was nominated for a Fryderyk in the jazz debut category of the year.

He also worked with Jerzy Milian , Mikołaj Trzaska , Nicole Mitchell and Wacław Zimpel , with whom the albums Stone Fog (2013) and Lam (2016) were created. The album Komeda Deconstructed (2014) was created with the Grit Ensemble . He can also be heard on Adam Bałdych's Sacrum Profanum and on albums by Lena Piękniewska.
