The Fryderyk

The Fryderyk is the most important Polish music award. It is awarded annually by the Phonographic Academy and reflects essential parts of Polish cultural life in the previous year. The prize was awarded for the first time in 1995 (for 1994). The awards are made in a variety of categories, including the domestic Polish “Song of the Year”, “Album of the Year”, “Singer of the Year”, “Singer of the Year”, “Band of the Year” and “Debut of the Year”. The vote takes place in two rounds. After a first round of voting within the music academy, five proposals are usually nominated in each category. In the second round, each of the approximately 700 members votes for one proposal. The prizes are awarded between March and May of each year.

This prize is named after Frédéric Chopin , whose first name is Fryderyk in Polish .
