Anna Maria Jopek (born December 14, 1970 in Warsaw ) is a Polish singer . She represented Poland at the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin .

life and career

Her parents were active in the Polish group Mazowsze . The mother Maria Stankiewicz was a dancer and the father Stanisław Jopek was a well-known Polish singer.

In 1989, she started at the Manhattan School of Music in New York , a jazz -Studies. In 1994 she graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw with a degree in classical piano . She signed her first record deal three years later with Polygram and recorded her first album: Ale Jestem (Eng. "But I am"). In the same year she represented Poland at the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin . In 1998 she received a gold record for Ale Jestem . For her next album Szeptem ( Eng . "Whispering") she received platinum in the same year and double platinum in 2001. On January 31, 1998, she married the radio presenter Marcin Kydryński .

In April of the same year she was awarded the " Fryderyk ", one of the most important Polish music prizes. A month later she had a son. A year later their second son was born. In 2000 she went on a concert tour to Israel ; in Katowice / Poland she formed the opening act for Sting with her band .

Her international breakthrough came in 2002 with the album Upojenie , which she recorded with the American jazz guitarist Pat Metheny , who also composed several songs for her. She sings partly in Polish, partly in English. In the same year she toured with her band in Germany and Austria . In September 2004 they played in Kassel , Osnabrück , France and the USA . In October 2004 she worked with the German guitarist Robert Wolf . In 2005 her album Secret was released, which contains songs only in English. She sings her own songs and cover versions on this CD. In autumn and winter 2005 she was on tour again in Germany. In 2011, Polanna , Haiku and Sobremesa released three albums with different orientations at the same time.
