The State Dance and Singing Ensemble "Mazowsze" patr. Tadeusz Sygietyński ( Polish Państwowy Zespół Ludowy Pieśni i Tańca "Mazowsze" im. Tadeusza Sygietyńskiego ) is one of the largest Polish ensembles that cultivates the Polish tradition of folk music and folk dance .

history

The Mazowsze ensemble was established by a decree of the Ministry of Culture and Art on October 8, 1948. Professor Tadeusz Sygietyński was commissioned with the establishment . The task of the ensemble was to maintain Polish folklore, based on the traditional repertoire of folk dance and folk song. The premiere took place on November 6, 1950 at the Teatr Polski in Warsaw. After the premiere in Warsaw, further appearances followed in Poland, but also abroad. This was followed by trips to the Eastern Bloc, later also to the western world, e.g. B. to Paris (1954), New York (1960) and about another 6,500 appearances in Poland and 49 other countries.

In 1955, Tadeusz Sygietyński, the founder of the ensemble, died. This fact cast a shadow on the further planning and development of the ensemble. The intention was even to disband Mazowsze. Mira Zimińska-Sygietyńska then took over the management and held it for over 40 years until her death in 1997. After that, Mazowsze was led successively by Brygida Linartas , Włodzimierz Jakubas and Jacek Kalinowski .

repertoire

Originally the repertoire of the ensemble consisted of songs and dances from the Mazovia region (central Poland, hence the name of the ensemble). The program was later expanded to include dances and songs from many ethnographic regions in Poland and even abroad. The Polish national dances , such as Krakowiak , Mazurka and Polonaise , have the highest priority. Not only folklore is artistically implemented, sacred and patriotic songs are also presented.
