Franc Perko

Franc Perko (born November 19, 1929 in Krka , Slovenia ; † February 20, 2008 in Ljubljana , Slovenia) was Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Belgrade from 1986 to 2001 .

Life

Franc Perko was ordained a priest on June 29, 1953 . In 1986 he was appointed Archbishop of Belgrade by Pope John Paul II . He received his episcopal ordination on January 6, 1987, as well as his co-consecrators Eduardo Martínez Somalo , official in the State Secretariat of the Vatican , and José Tomás Sánchez , secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples .

In 2001, Pope John Paul II granted Franc Perko's application to resign due to age ; his successor as archbishop was Stanislav Hočevar .

Perko became known as an opinion leader in the disintegration of Yugoslavia , the Bosnian War (1992) and the Kosovo crisis (1999).
