Christoph Wulf (born August 4, 1944 in Berlin ) is a German educationalist and professor of anthropology and education at the Free University of Berlin .

Life

Wulf spent his childhood in a rectory in Berlin-Britz . After graduating from high school in Steglitz , he first studied history , educational science , philosophy and literature at the Free University of Berlin, which he completed in 1968 with a Magister Artium . In 1969 he went to Marburg with a grant from the Volkswagen Foundation to do his doctorate with Wolfgang Klafki . After an information trip through the USA as a guest of the US Department of Education , he spent a year researching his dissertation at the Universities of Stanford, Los Angeles, Boulder and New York. From 1970 to 1975 he was a research assistant at the German Institute for International Educational Research in Frankfurt. 1973 PhD at the University of Marburg Dr. phil .; In 1975 he completed his habilitation there in educational science. In 1975 he became a full professor for educational science at the University of Siegen . Since 1980 he has been Professor of Anthropology and Education in the Faculty of Education and Psychology at the Free University of Berlin.

Wulf has held guest professorships at the Université de Paris ( Nanterre , St. Denis , Denis Diderot ), the Fondazione San Carlo in Modena , the European Peace University , the Universiteit van Amsterdam , the Stockholm University , the University of London , the University of Tokyo , and Jawaharlal Nehru University , New Delhi, as well as in Kyoto, Beijing and Kazan; Research stays at Stanford University .

Together with Dieter Lenzen , Wulf published the book series Pedagogical Anthropology on behalf of the Pedagogical Anthropology Working Group of the German Society for Educational Science. Michael Wimmer, professor for basic research in educational science at the University of Hamburg, is one of his students.

Act

Wulf works on questions of anthropology , especially pedagogical anthropology. The focus of work is on mimesis and imagination research, performativity, gesture and ritual research as well as aesthetic and intercultural education. He is concerned with the knowledge of people in a globalized world characterized by cultural diversity. The aim of his research is to use historical and ethnographic methods as well as philosophical reflection to make a contribution to the self-image of people today.
