Gabriele Brandstetter

Gabriele Brandstetter (born February 21, 1954 in Munich ) is a German theater scholar , literary scholar and dance scholar .

Life

Gabriele Brandstetter grew up in Munich and studied German , history , political science and theater studies at the universities in Erlangen , Munich , Regensburg and Vienna . For her state examination she wrote about Così fan tutte with a major in German studies . In 1983 Gabriele Brandstetter received her doctorate from the University of Munich with her dissertation on eroticism and religiosity. On the poetry of Clemens Brentano .

Since 1981 Gabriele Brandstetter worked as a lecturer in the field of modern German literary studies at the University of Munich , later as a research assistant at the Research Institute for Music Theater at the University of Bayreuth , where she also worked as an editor on the series Thurnauer Schriften on music theater. In 1986 Gabriele Brandstetter became a senior academic adviser. Currently at the same institute; at the time she worked on Piper's encyclopedia of musical theater . In 1993 Gabriele Brandstetter qualified as a professor at the University of Bayreuth and received the venia legendi in the subjects of modern German literature and theater studies. The title of the habilitation thesis was Lecture corporelle. Dance, theater and literature at the beginning of the 20th century . It was published in 1995 in a shortened version by Fischer Verlag under the title Tanz-Lektüren. Body images and spatial figures of the avangarde published. In 1997 she became professor for modern German literary studies at the German Department of the University of Basel . Gabriele Brandstetter has been Professor of Theater Studies and Dance Studies at the Free University of Berlin since 2003 . In 2005 she founded the Center for Movement Research at the Institute for Theater Studies at the Free University of Berlin and the MA in Dance Studies. Since 2008 she has been co-director of the International College, Entanglement of Theater Cultures. She is a member of the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . Her main research interests are the history and aesthetics of dance, theater and literature from the 18th century to the present day, virtuosity in art and culture and the relationship between body, image and movement. In 2004 she received the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize of the German Research Foundation, and in 2011 the Cross of Merit on the ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
