Auerstein

The Auerstein is an elevation made of porphyry rock in the Bergstrasse natural area on the western edge of the Neckartal-Odenwald Nature Park . To the east is the Hohe Nistler ( 496  m ). It is located on the north side of the Höllbachtal and thus north of Heidelberg-Handschuhsheim in Baden-Württemberg . The Auerstein was previously used as a quarry .

The area is surrounded by a south-south-western oaks - mixed forest covered. Remnants of dry grass and dwarf shrub heather are present. This vegetation was previously widespread in the area, but has been pushed back by human influence, especially the creation of vineyards and orchards . The Auerstein is designated as a natural monument .
