Monika Kuszyńska (born January 14, 1980 in Łódź ) is a Polish singer . She was a Polish participant in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest .

Life

Monika Kuszyńska comes from Łódź. While recording a song with her first band, she was discovered by Robert Janson, who founded the rock band Varius Manx . At the end of 2000 she took up the band's eighth album Eta , which was released in 2001, as the singer of the band . It reached 15th place in the charts. Another album followed in 2002 and in the same year the formation won the Grand Prix at the Festival of the Baltic States. In 2003 Kuszyńska competed with Varius Manx and the title Sonny in the Polish preliminary round for the Eurovision Song Contest.

On May 28, 2006, the band had a serious car accident near Milicz . As a result, Monika is paralyzed from the waist down and sits in a wheelchair. Although she later sang songs, she did not appear again in public as a singer until 2010. The collaboration with Varius Manx and all activities of the band had been suspended since the accident and finally both sides announced in 2010 that they would go their separate ways.

Since then, she has also appeared in various TV formats. After getting married in 2011, she released her first solo album Ocalona (German: “Die Gerettete ”) in 2012, which made it to number 40 on the album charts.

On March 9, 2015, TVP presented her as part of the Świat Się Kręci program as the Polish representative for the ESC 2015 in Vienna . She appeared there with the ballad In the Name of Love (Eng .: "In the name of love") in the final on May 23, 2015, after she successfully prevailed in the semifinals. In the final, she finally reached number 23.
