TVP family of channels 2007

The Telewizja Polska SA ( TVP ; German: "Polish Television Ltd") is the public television in Poland .

TVP has been broadcasting since 1952 and was the only television operator in Poland until the 1990s. Since the media reform of the Polish government in 2016, TVP has been under the supervision of the National Media Council.

history

The first work for a television program in Poland began in 1935. a. Polskie radio . The transmitter's test program started for the first time in 1937. The work was interrupted by the Second World War and resumed in 1947.

On October 25, 1952, a television program started again, initially only receivable in Warsaw, today's TVP1 . Telewizja Katowice (today: TVP3 Katowice ) started for southern Poland on December 3, 1957 . Another 16 regional channels were then gradually added.

On October 2, 1970, the second nationwide program TVP2 began broadcasting. Since the 1990s, regional programs have been grouped under the name TVP3 ( TVP Info since 2007 ), which has been broadcasting again since 2016. The foreign channel TVP Polonia followed in 1992 and the cultural channel TVP Kultura on April 24, 2005 . From 1997 to 1998 TVP operated the music channel Tylko Muzyka ( Eng. Music Only ). There are 34 unions in the company.

The color TV was born on 16 March 1971 in accordance with the television standard SECAM introduced. The changeover from SECAM to PAL took place in 1995. In 1996 TVP began working with Arte , and on January 1, 2001 an association agreement came into force. This saw u. a. suggest that TVP delivers a total of 25 hours of Arte programming in 2001 and 35 hours from 2002 onwards. In return, Arte received support in accessing the Polish cable network.

In application of the nationally and internationally controversial reform of the public media in Poland that came into force on January 8, 2016 , Treasury Minister Dawid Jackiewicz appointed Jacek Kurski as the new director of the station on the same day . Arte temporarily suspended its cooperation with TVP in January 2016 because it feared TVP's lack of independence. According to a further media law, the Council of National Media is now taking over the powers of the treasurer. In October 2017, Kurski justified the station's closeness to the government by stating that TVP had to act as a “counterbalance” to stations critical of the government.

A high-definition channel founded only for the 2018 World Cup was TVP 4K. From June 14th to July 17th and again from July 23rd to September 3rd, it broadcast most of all games with Polish participation via fee-based satellite and IP platforms from Orange and nc + .

Holdings

TVP is u. a. involved in the broadcaster Eurosport . There is an association agreement with the Franco-German broadcaster Arte . This was suspended in February 2009 due to the openly right-wing extremist positions of the then TVP director Piotr Farfał and re- enacted in October 2009 after his successor, Bogusław Szwedo , took office . Polish intellectuals such as Andrzej Wajda and Agnieszka Holland had called for a boycott on May 3, 2009, the Polish national holiday, in protest against Farfał.
