Lietuvos nacionalinis radijas ir televizija ( listen ? / I ) (LRT) is a semi-state broadcasting company from Lithuania with headquarters in Vilnius . LRT broadcasts three radio and three television programs and also operates a news portal. 75 percent of the company's shares are held by the state. Part of the budget is generated through advertising. The broadcasting company employs around 650 people. It is a member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) . Audio file / audio sample

history

On June 12, 1926, the first regular radio began in Lithuania. At that time it was broadcast from Kaunas . On June 30, 1957, the first television program was broadcast and the company was founded. It has been broadcast in color since 1975. In 1990, just in time for Lithuania's independence, television and radio were restructured. The broadcasting company has been a member of the European Broadcasting Union since 1993. On July 27, 2012, the names of the television and radio stations were unified. The abbreviation "LRT" is now included in all station names. Since January 20, 2014, the television broadcaster LRT has also been broadcasting its programs on the HD channel LRT HD , making it the first in Lithuania in HD quality.
