Radio 100.7 (own spelling radio 100.7 ) is a public service radio stations in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg , which went on air on September 19, 1993, "Honnert, 7 - de sociocultural radio" then called ( dt. " the socio-cultural radio ”) on the FM frequency 100.7 MHz. Most broadcasts are in Luxembourgish .

history

The foundation of the radio station was made possible by the Media Act of 1991. The program devotes most of its airtime to culture and information , but also to entertainment in the form of a relatively broad spectrum of music. On June 1, 1997, broadcasting was expanded to 24 hours a day, previously broadcasting only in the afternoon and early evening. In 2002 the station changed its name to radio 100.7 .

Radio 100.7 is operated by the "Établissement de Radiodiffusion Socioculturelle du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg" (ERSL). The ERSL works closely with other public radio broadcasters and has been a member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) since 1997 . For example, the discussion program Schengen Talk is produced at irregular intervals in collaboration with Saarland Broadcasting Corporation . Radio 100.7, together with the German-speaking Belgian Broadcasting Corporation and Kringvarp Føroya on the Faroe Islands, is one of the smallest public broadcasters in Europe.

The program is not financed by license fees and advertising. Instead, the law regulates that the financial resources for broadcasting operations and the equipment are made available by the state. Additional sources of income can come from hosting sociocultural events and donations. In fact, individual programs in the program are given a sponsorship notice. The law also stipulates that the state can provide additional funds that are not earmarked for technical equipment if they are necessary to ensure the operation of the program. In 2013, the running costs for the program borne by the Ministry of Culture add up to 4.8 million euros.

Long-time director Fernand Weides left the station in August 2013 and retired. His successor was Jean-Paul Hoffmann, who previously worked at SES Astra .

In the early years, the program was produced in the RTL building . On January 1, 1996, they moved to their own studios. At the beginning of 2003, the program moved again and from then on broadcast from a villa on Avenue Monterey near the center of Luxembourg City and in the immediate vicinity of the Villa Louvigny, which is important for radio history . The program left this location at the end of June 2013 and is now broadcasting from newly built premises on the Kirchberg plateau on the outskirts.

The magazine programs are mainly loosened up by pop music , which stands out noticeably from the mainstream and charts .

On Sundays the program follows a different program structure. After the cantata at 7:30 a.m., Early Bird , a relaxed Breakfast Club broadcast, follows . From 12:30 p.m. the program is all about music. First classical music , then from 3 p.m. swing and big bands , from 4 p.m. jazz , and from 5 p.m. the groove club.

From the beginning of July to mid-September, Radio 100.7 broadcasts a reduced program. Some word-heavy programs are omitted in favor of music programs and program repetitions.

Radio 100.7 broadcasts mainly in Luxembourgish. However, individual lectures, quotations, program contributions and interviews will also be broadcast in French and German without translation.

In 2013, the program had the largest audience of 18.6 percent and an average audience rating of 3.5 percent of the population of Luxembourg, which corresponds to 19,000 listeners. In contrast, the station's program booklet has a circulation of 12,700.

According to a TNS-ILRES Plurimedia study from 2014, the daily audience rating of "100 point7" is between 4.5 and 8 percent. Within a week, between 20.1 and 30.5 percent of the population listen to the station. That makes up an audience of around 100,000 people, i.e. around a fifth of the total population of Luxembourg.

reception

The program is broadcast by the station Dudelange in the extreme south of Luxembourg on the frequency 100.7 MHz with an effective radiated power of 100 kW. By using directional antennas with a radiation azimuth between 230 and 90 degrees, the signal is blocked towards France, but the full transmission power is used towards Germany. This means that the program can be received on VHF in significant parts of Saarland, Hunsrück and Eifel and is also fed into the cable network in analogue fashion in places such as Trier , Wittlich , Bitburg and Daun .

Furthermore, reception is possible in almost all of Europe via satellite via the orbital position 23.5 degrees East. The program is broadcast on the frequency 12.168 MHz in vertical polarization at a symbol rate of 27.500 in MP2 with 192 kBit / s in the DVB-S standard. In addition, web streams exist in two formats: 128 kBit / s MP3 and 56 kBit / s AAC .

Since the reception of the transmitter in Dudelange in the north of Luxembourg is partially impaired, there are plans to put a filling transmitter there in the near future .
