Kirchberg plateau

The Kirchberg Plateau ( Kierchbierg in Luxembourg ) is located in the northeast of Luxembourg City .

It is connected to the city center by the Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge ("Red Bridge").

Numerous banks, European institutions and authorities have settled on the Kirchberg, including the European Court of Justice (ECJ), the European Court of Auditors , the European Investment Bank , parts of the General Secretariat of the European Parliament , Eurostat and the Max Planck Institute Luxemburg for International, European and Regulatory Procedural Law (see also: Europaviertel (Luxembourg) ).

The district also houses the headquarters of the RTL Group , the Luxembourg Exhibition Center (Foire) , the European School , the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce (Chambre de Commerce), the Luxembourg Chamber of Crafts (Chambre des Métiers), the private, state-recognized eufom University ( European University for Economics & Management), the private, state-recognized ISEC University of Economics as well as the largest sports and cultural center in Luxembourg, the " Coque ", and the largest cinema in the city (Utopolis).

In 2005, the newly built building of the Luxembourg Philharmonic was inaugurated on the Place de l'Europe on the Kirchberg . The architect is Christian de Portzamparc , and Albert Yaying Xu designed the acoustics in the large concert hall. The large concert hall Salle de Concerts Grande-Duchesse Joséphine-Charlotte normally has 1307 seats, which can be increased to a maximum of 1500 seats.

In 2006 the Musée d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean (Mudam) was inaugurated in the immediate vicinity of the Philharmonie. The museum building is located on the slope of the Kirchberg facing the city directly at Fort Thüngen (Dräi Eechelen), it was designed by the architect Ieoh Ming Pei , which is why it is usually referred to as the Pei Museum (French: Musée Pei ).

The business and banking district on the Kirchberg will continue to change rapidly over the next few years. According to the "Fund Kirchberg", more than 60,000 employees will work there by 2036.

At the timetable change in December 2017, the new station Luxembourg-Pfaffenthal / Kirchberg of the Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois (CFL) went into operation, which connects the Kirchberg plateau and the Pfaffenthal district with the city center of Luxembourg and the main train station, the journey time is approx. Five Minutes (see also: Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg funicular railway ).
