Piotr Farfał

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Piotr Farfał (born May 22, 1978 in Głogów ) is a Polish politician of the right-wing extremist League of Polish Families ("Liga Polskich Rodzin").

Career

Farfał studied law at the University of Szczecin and the Higher School of Banking in Wroclaw . He was a functionary of the openly anti - Semitic All - Polish Youth and a member of the National Rebirth of Poland party . During his student years and also afterwards, he wrote for the right-wing extremist fanzine “Front”, and later for the magazine “Szczerbiec” (the name is based on the surviving Piastic coronation sword ). After graduating, Farfał was temporarily head of the publishing house “Ars Politica”. His own non-fiction book from his pen Myśleć po polsku (“Thinking in Polish”) was published.

In May 2006 , at the suggestion of his party, which was part of the Polish government coalition at the time , he was appointed to the station's board of directors by the supervisory board of the state television station TVP , and was appointed deputy tenderer of the TVP. Farfał lost a trial he had initiated against the national newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza . In May 2008 the court in Warsaw ruled that Farfal had to put up with the term “ex- neo-Nazi ”.

After the resignation of the artistic director Andrzej Urbański, Farfał became the new provisional director of the TVP in January 2009. His official acts made him a controversial public figure. Among other things, he revoked an existing contract for the station to co-produce a planned US feature film about Irena Sendler, who died in 2008 . The broadcaster's supervisory board failed on April 14 in the vote on the application to dismiss him due to a missing vote.

In an open letter, also published in English on the Internet, to the head of state, the senators and the members of the Polish parliament on March 26, 2009, Polish journalists and intellectuals demanded that Intendant Farfał be recalled. They accused him of appointing like-minded people to senior posts, exercising censorship and implementing projects that ran counter to the public program mandate. Because of Farfał, the cultural broadcaster Arte has frozen its cooperation with Polish public television.

On the Polish national holiday, May 3rd, Polish filmmakers called for a boycott of the station. Agnieszka Holland and Andrzej Wajda and many other artists and intellectuals joined the appeal .

After October 1, 2009, according to a decision by the Supervisory Board, Farfał was no longer head of Polish television. Bogusław Szwedo took over his post, for the time being only executive.
