Lolek and Bolek
Lolek and Bolek (in the Polish original Bolek i Lolek ) is the name of a Polish comic series and several cartoons , the main characters of which in many German and other language titles (e.g. those of the comic books) often also in their original order Bolek and Lolek are called, in English also "Jym and Jam" or "Bennie and Lennie".

The protagonists are the two brothers Bolek (the bigger one) and Lolek (the smaller one), who Leszek Lorek (1922–1977), Alfred Ledwig (1929–2006) and Władysław Nehrebecki (1923–1978) created in 1962 as a contribution to a tender and in 1963 licensed to the Polish animation studio Studio Filmów Rysunkowych in Bielsko-Biała . Lolek and Bolek achieved fame through a long-lasting animated series that began in 1964 with the award-winning short film The Crossbow . Up until 1986, the two had appeared in over 150 short films. In 1973, at the request of the viewers, the duo was supplemented by another, this time female character named Tola , who appeared for the first time in the eponymous episode "Tola" and then in a total of 29 other episodes. Most of the films were made under the direction of Władysław Nehrebecki, the director of the studio, often based on scripts by Leszek Mech .
After the license agreement was not renewed in 1973, the studio produced other films without the creator's approval or compensation, including the two full-length cartoons "The Great Journey of Bolek and Lolek" from 1977/78 and "Bolek and Lolek in the Wild West" by 1986, which also enjoyed great popularity abroad. Meanwhile, there are of them several German and Polish DVD editions, while behind the scenes for over 30 years now to the European Court vorgedrungener dispute between the last living in Leverkusen Alfred Ledwig, the heirs of Nehrebecki, the animation studio and the Republic of Poland who regards the characters as a national treasure , is raging.
The stories were also very popular in the GDR . Since the mid-1970s the Sorbian Domowina publishing house in Bautzen has published ten illustrated, large-format, 16-page booklets ("The golden city of the Incas", "The Orinoco", "In the forests of Canada", "Bison hunters", “The Animals of the Serengeti”, “The Pharaoh's Tomb”, “In the Gobi Desert”, “Yeti”, “The Pearl Fishermen” and “In the Steppes of Australia”), written by Władysław Nehrebecki and Leszek Mech and drawn by Alfred Ledwig that were reissued over and over again in the following years.
In 2011, a bronze Bolek and Lolek monument by Roman Nehrebecki and Jan Nehrebecki, the two sons of the director Władysław Nehrebecki, was inaugurated in the center of Bielsko-Biała.

- Tola - A cute and lovely little girl who lived deep in the forest. Tola is very girlish. Even if she looks like an enchanting fairytale princess, she is actually a common tomboy and has more boyish features than those of a magical princess. Tola has orange hair with pigtails. She wears a white shirt, a sleeveless blue dress, white socks and black shoes. In her first appearance in the episode "Tola", Tola leaves the forest, moves to Bolek and Lolek's house and meets them for the first time. According to the episode "Zgubiony Ślad", Tola lives in the wooden hut in the forest.
