The Moomins is from 1977 to 1982 produced the Polish-Austrian animated series about Mumin -Figuren Tove Jansson .
Content, structure, design
The plot of the series is based on the Moomin books by Tove Janssons and the newspaper comics published from 1954. The figures, animated in stop-motion technology , are made of felt. To create a spatial impression, they were guided between panes of glass. The backgrounds are painted and provided with other materials. Tove and Lars Jansson were on hand to advise. The narrator speaks all the characters, for the German version it is Hans Clarin who also wrote the German dialogues. The original series is 78 parts with a duration of eight to nine minutes, three slightly shortened episodes were combined for the broadcast in Austria and Germany. This makes 26 episodes about 25 minutes long. The English version is cut to 100 episodes, some of which are of different lengths.
production
It is a co-production of Film Polski and Jupiter Film, made in the Se-ma-for -Studio in Łódź (Studio Małych Form Filmowych)
Publications
The ORF broadcast episodes 1 to 13 from November 15, 1980 and episodes 14 to 26 from November 7, 1982 in the afternoon program. ZDF followed on November 27, 1980 and February 10, 1983.
Some episodes were later cut together to make movies and so reused. From the 2000s onwards, role-based dialogues replaced the old one-narrator technique. The images for these films are digitally processed. That is the case with The Moomins - Crazy Summer Days in Moomin Valley (2008) and The Moomins - On Comet Hunt (2010).
An uncut German version in 78 episodes (7 DVDs) was released in 2004 by the Trickkiste label.
