Se-ma-for Produkcja Filmowa Sp. Z oo ( Studio Małych Form Filmowych - SMFF ) is an internationally renowned animation studio in Łódź, Poland . The company specializes in puppet cartoons in stop-motion technology, but also offers other techniques such as B. Computer animation . The director of the company is the film producer Zbigniew Żmudzki (* 1950).

The film studio was founded under the name Studio Filmów Kukiełkowych "Filmu Polskiego" . According to the studio, the origins go back to 1947, when Zenon Wasilewski shot the first puppet cartoon, Za króla Krakusa , in his private apartment . In 1960, under Ryszard Brudzyński, the studio decided to make not only animation films, but also short films. It made it possible for graduates of the Łódź Film School to make their film debut, and that was the year the first paper cutting and cartoons were made . Furthermore, in 1960 the name of the studio was changed to Se-ma-for . The puppet series The Moomins , known in Germany and Austria , was produced here from 1978 to 1982. The studio received its first Oscar in 1983 for Tango (1980). In 1990 Se-ma-for tried to make full-length films, but it failed. Only two full-length films were produced: Siedmiomilowe Trampki and Mamo czy kury potrafia mówić . The film studio increasingly came under competitive pressure and therefore the state cinematography commission announced in November 1999 the liquidation of the state enterprise. On December 20, 1999, the limited liability company ( Sp. Z oo ) was founded. The film Peter and the Wolf , which premiered in 2006 and won an Oscar in 2008, was directed by Zbigniew Żmudzki .
