Varius Manx is a Polish pop band .

history

It was founded in 1989 in Łódź by the musician Robert Janson. A year later, The Beginning was their first album. The debut consisted entirely of instrumental music. In 1993 the second album The New Shape followed , on which Robert Janson, Robert Amirian and a few guest musicians such as Edyta Bartosiewicz contributed to the new album with their singing.

1994 came with the album EMU - Kto tu jest Emu? (German: 'Who is an Emu here?') made a major change for the first time. Since then, the band has had a lead singer, Anita Lipnicka , and Polish-language songs in their repertoire. Since then, the band has seen some of its greatest hits. EMU and the follow-up album ELF - Elf, który kradnie serca (German: 'An elf who steals hearts') each sold up to 500,000 times. In 1995 the band received a Fryderyk for the best Polish group of the year and then they took part in the production of a soundtrack for the film Młode wilki , in which they contributed most of the songs, some of which came from the album ELF .

In 1996 Varius Manx was a guest on the show Szansa na sukces (German: 'A chance for success'), a Polish karaoke show in which songs by the bands present are sung. The winner of this episode was Kasia Stankiewicz, then 19. The band liked her so much that she became the new singer of Varius Manx in 1996 after the singer Anita Lipnicka left, who started a solo project. With the new line-up, the fifth album EGO - Ich ego (Eng .: 'Ihr Ego') followed in the same year, which was able to build on the successes of previous albums. In 1997 END - To jeszcze nie Koniec (German: 'That's not the end') followed and the production of a second soundtrack, this time for the film Nocne Graffiti . Then the band paused and Kasia Stankiewicz produced her own solo album. In 2000, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the band, the album Najlepsze z dobrych (German: 'The best of the good') was created, an album with some of the band's most popular songs, some newly sung and rearranged songs from previous albums and four other new ones Songs. In 2001 Kasia Stankiewicz left the band.

In May 2001 Monika Kuszyńska became the new singer. With her, the albums ETA - Na szczęście jest Eta (German: 'Luckily there Eta'), ENO - Energetyzujące Nowoczesne Oryginalne and EMI were produced. In 2002 Varius Manx won the Grand Prix of the Baltic States with the title Moje Eldorado in Karlshamn ( Sweden ). For the 15th anniversary of the band EMI was released , the album cover was searched for via a competition, to which up to 317 suggestions were submitted. The winner was a cover with a white cat, which alludes to the name of the band, which means something like 'cat / tomcat without a tail'. The nine CDs to date have sold a total of over two million times.

In 2005 Varius Manx took part in the Polish Music Festival in Opole with the title Bezimienna . In May 2006, the band had an accident during a tour near the town of Milicz (Militsch), with singer Monika Kuszyńska and Robert Janson being seriously injured. In spite of all this, the DVD Ona ma siłę (German: 'She has strength'; the title is a text passage from the album EMU ) followed in June 2006 and the single Tyle siły mam (German: 'So much strength I have' in July) . ). In the music video of the single, the athlete Otylia Jędrzejczak took the place of the unsuccessful singer. In addition, in November 2006 the pre-accident acoustic album Varius Manx Symfonicznie - Tyle siły mam was published. After that, the band stopped all activities. In 2010, Varius Manx and the singers Monika Kuszyńska separated, who suffered permanent damage from the accident. In 2010 Anna Józefina Lubieniecka succeeded Monika Kuszyńska as singer and the band's work was resumed. In 2011 the album ELI was released, in which Anita Lipnicka also participated as a songwriter.

In 2013 Anna Lubieniecka ended her activity in the band to start a solo career. Lubieniecka was followed in May 2013 by the singer Edi Ann (Edyta Kuczyńska) with whom the band released the song Mamy teraz siebie (Now we have each other) in the summer of 2013 . The song was presented at the Festival of Polish Music in Opole in June 2013 and the accompanying music video was shot in the city where the band was founded, Łódź. Just in time for Valentine's Day 2014, the band released the song Wierzę w miłość (I believe in (the) love).

In 2015 it was initially announced that they would go on tour together with the former lead singer Stankiewicz, but then the decision was made to deepen the collaboration with the singer and to produce new material together. In 2016 the song Ameryka was presented.
