Momus

Nicholas Currie (born February 11, 1960 in Paisley , Scotland ), better known under the pseudonym Momus (after the Greek god of ridicule Momos ), is a musician , blogger and journalist (including a bi-weekly column on wired.com). Most of his songs are self-referential and / or postmodern .

Since the mid-1980s he has been releasing playful and progressive / cross-genre albums on various labels in Great Britain , the USA and Japan , in which he creates a world based on the maxims of diversity and respect for the foreign and the other. He is fascinated by the topics of identity, Japan, avant-garde, time travel and sex. Due to an infection of the cornea, his right eye lost its function in 1997, which is why he wears an eye patch that has now become his trademark. In the late 1980s he had a single hit with the song Hairstyle Of The Devil .

In the early 1980s he began in Scotland with some former members of the band Josef K , from post-punk to produce influenced music and was in the area of the label Postcard Records act, though he never took up music for this label. In 1987 he moved to London and signed to Creation Records , where he began recording the hyper-literate and quirky songs he is known for today. When Creation Records signed Oasis in 1992 and thus assumed a changed profile, he moved to Paris , where he got a contract with Cherry Red Records . Since then he has lived in various countries, with Japan being most successful (including as producer of the pop singer Kahimi Karie ).
