Grzegorz Jerzy Turnau (born July 31, 1967 in Krakow ) is a Polish singer-songwriter.

Live and act

Turnau learned to play the piano from 1973 to 1980 in the music school in Krakow. After a short stay in Great Britain, he finished his school years with the Abitur in his hometown Krakow. He made his debut as a singer-songwriter as a high school student at the student song festival in Krakow. He immediately won first prize and from then on appeared in the legendary Krakow cabaret Piwnica pod baranami . He is still associated with cabaret today.

His songs have been released on CDs since 1991 . He sets texts from third parties to music, but also writes his own, usually demanding texts. But he does not ignore the interpretation of existing material either. His 2006 album Historia pewnej podróży only contains pieces by Marek Grechuta, who had recently passed away .

Turnau received numerous awards for his recordings. Three of his albums received at least one platinum record. In 1995 he received the Fryderyk as singer of the year. Also of interest are the CDs Księżyc w misce (The Moon in the Bowl), aimed primarily at children, and the collection of sleep and comfort songs entitled Kołysanki - utulanki, recorded together with Magda Umer . The demanding poet Turnau is one of the most popular and successful artists in Poland .
