Zakopower is a Polish folk band founded in 2005 .
Band history
The band, to which a total of seven members belong, was formed as a result of the initiative of the violinist Sebastian Karpiel-Bułecka, who brought together a number of well-known musicians from the Tatra folk scene who had previously participated in other productions, including Zbigniew Namysłowski , Vitold Rek , Zbigniew Preisner and last but not least on the folk record by Goran Bregović and Kayah . The latter also acts as the manager of the band, which is produced by Mateusz Pospieszalski.
The name of the band is derived from the city of Zakopane , the center of the Polish Gorals , to whom the music owes numerous impulses. The band has also performed a cover version of the Hungarian piece Gyöngyhaju Lany (original by Omega , 1969) with Hungarian lyrics.
The first CD Music Hal combines texts in the Goral dialect with elements of folk songs and club music. In autumn 2007 the second CD Na siedem was released . The musicians see themselves as part of the broadly understood world music .
