Monika Maria Brodka (born February 7, 1988 in Żywiec , Poland ; known as Brodka ) is a Polish pop singer . In 2004 she won the third season of the Polish talent show Idol . She is a member of the phonographic academy of the ZPAV .

biography

Monika Brodka comes from Twardorzeczka, a municipality near Żywiec. She was brought up by a family from the Polish highlands who belong to the Gorals minority and who practice traditional music. She started playing the violin at the age of six .

Career

In 2004, Brodka took part in the third season of the casting show Idol . In January 2004 she won the final against Jakub Kęsy with 69% of the vote.

On September 27, 2004 her first EP Mini Album was released. 1 with a total of seven titles. It debuted at number 29 in the Polish album charts. In the following week, it reached second place. The lead single from the album was the song Ten (Eng. "The"). On October 25, 2005 her second EP Mini Album was released. 2 , which reached 21st place in Poland. Her debut album Album was released at the same time as her second EP . This contains all titles from the previous two EPs. It reached sixth place in the Polish album charts. With over 35,000 copies sold, the album went gold in Poland.

In 2005 Brodka was nominated in three categories for the Fryderyk , these were: Album Roku Pop , Nowa Twarz Fonografii and Wokalistka roku . In October 2005 she recorded the song "Horoskop" with the rapper duo WSZ & CNE. The title appeared on their album Jeszcze raz .

On November 20, 2006 her second studio album Moje piosenki (Eng. "My songs") was released. This debuted in Poland at number 41 and reached position 7 in the coming weeks. With 15,000 copies sold, the album was certified with a gold record. Singles from the album are the titles Znam Cię na pamięć (German: "I know you by heart") and Miał być ślub (German: "There should be a wedding").

On September 20, 2010, their third studio album Granda (Eng. "Fraud") was released. The music for the titles was composed by Bartosz Dziedzic and Brodka themselves. In the album charts, the album debuted at number 10. In the coming week, it reached second place. In May 2011 she was nominated in nine categories for the Fryderyk , of which she won three. With over 60,000 copies sold, the album was awarded double platinum in November 2011. In April 2012, the music video for the single Krzyżówka dnia (Eng. "Crossword of the day") won the Fryderyk in the category "Best Music Video".

On May 30, 2012, their third EP LAX was released , which only contains English-language songs. The first single Varsovie ( French "Warsaw") was used in 2012 by the Polish music channel VIVA Polska for the channel's new campaign.
