The MTV Europe Music Awards 2012 (also EMAs 2012) took place on November 11, 2012 in the Festhalle in Frankfurt am Main , Germany . The show was moderated by the German model Heidi Klum .

The nominees were announced on September 17, 2012. Most of the nominations went to Rihanna , who was represented in eight categories. Katy Perry , Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift were each nominated five times. The most awards went to Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber with three pieces each; Carly Rae Jepsen and One Direction each received two awards.
