The 1998 MTV Europe Music Awards were presented on November 12, 1998 at the Fila Forum , Assago , near Milan , Italy . The moderator was the model Jenny McCarthy . The winners of the evening were Madonna and the Spice Girls , who each won two awards.
Mel C ("Sporty Spice") and Emma Bunton ("Baby Spice") named the award for the Spice Girls because Mel B and Victoria Adams were both pregnant and therefore stayed away from the event.
