Melanie Brown
Melanie Janine Brown (born May 29, 1975 in Leeds , England ), also known as Mel B , is a British singer and actress . She was a member of the pop music group Spice Girls , where she was nicknamed Scary Spice ( "The Unheimliche" ). Her father came from the Caribbean state of St. Kitts and Nevis .
Life
After the Spice Girls ended, their first solo album, Hot , was released in 2000 . This was followed in 2005 by the second solo album L. A. State of Mind . The CD flopped, however, which u. a. This was probably also due to the lack of promotion: only 670 copies of the album, which according to its own account was recorded as a thank you to the fans, sold in the first week after its release in Great Britain. The CD thus reached 453rd place in British album sales. Hot made it to number 28 on the hit list.
Acting career
Even before her Spice Girls time, Melanie Brown had three appearances in the English drama series Coronation Street . In 1997 she played herself in the Spice Girls movie. In 2003 she played the role of Claire in the successful English series Burn It . However, she only starred in the first season. Also in 2003 she starred in the English horror film LD 50 Lethal Dose , which was released directly on DVD. In 2004 she was seen on the side of Kelly Rowland in the American romance comedy The Seat Filler , which was co-produced by Will Smith . In 2006 she starred alongside Jason Flemyng in the thriller Telling Lies , which premiered on May 16, 2007 in Cannes. Also in 2006 she stood in front of the camera for the short film Love Thy Neighbor . She was also on stage in The Vagina Monologues and the musical Rent .
Private life
On September 13, 1998, Brown married the dancer Jimmy Gulzar; together they have a daughter (born February 21, 1999). The marriage was divorced again in 2001. From a short-term relationship with the American actor Eddie Murphy , she has her second daughter (born April 3, 2007). After Murphy had publicly questioned paternity, a DNA test on June 11, 2007 in a hospital in Beverly Hills proved the opposite.
On June 6, 2007 she married the music producer Stephen Belafonte. She also has a daughter with Belafonte (born September 1, 2011). In December 2017, Brown and Belafonte divorced.
In August 2018, she was admitted to a rehab clinic; The reason given was a post-traumatic stress disorder.
Professional
In July 1998 Brown interviewed the musician Prince , who was releasing the album Newpower Soul at the time. She also appears in the music video for the song Beautiful Strange , also published by Prince and found on his 2001 album Rave In2 the Joy Fantastic .
From September to November 2007, Melanie Brown was a participant in the US TV dance show Dancing with the Stars (American version of Let's Dance ). In the final on November 27th, she and her dance partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy took second place.
On April 7, 2008, Brown presented her own clothing line, Catty Couture (German: "feline fashion") in the California Market Center in Los Angeles, which consisted of women's tops, jackets and skirts with printed animal motifs. In the same year she advertised the British underwear brand Ultimo .
She was seen as the presenter of the talent show The Singing Office in June 2008 . Together with Joey Fatone ( * NSYNC ), she surprised offices by holding a spontaneous singing competition there.
In September 2008 she released a fitness DVD. From 2013 to 2018 she was a juror on America's Got Talent talent show . In 2015 she was a guest judge at RuPaul's Drag Race .
