Rowland was born in Atlanta , Georgia in 1981 , the second child to a single parent, Doris Lovett Rowland. She has an older brother named Orlando. After moving several times, she eventually spent much of her childhood at the home of her good friend Beyoncé Knowles in Houston , Texas , after joining the dance and singing band Girls Tyme at the age of ten. Over the years, Rowland and her bandmates succeeded in drawing attention to themselves locally through numerous appearances in shopping centers or at talent and singing competitions (including the TV format Star Search ). When a record deal with Elektra Records was imminent, the name of the group, which from then on consisted of Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson , was changed to Destiny's Child .

Destiny's Child

After some delays, the quartet finally signed their first recording deal with Columbia Records in 1996 . The band's first single, No, No, No , climbed to # 1 on the US Billboard charts and made the band known nationwide overnight. Further successful decoupling followed; including the other # 1 hits Bills Bills Bills and Say My Name . Two successful albums were also released: Destiny's Child (1998) and The Writing's on the Wall (1999).

At the height of their careers, two of the four members broke away from the group. In late 1999, LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson left the band because of a disagreement with manager Mathew Knowles. Then Destiny's Child took on two new members: Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin . The latter left the band after only six months due to internal problems, Destiny's Child stayed as a trio.

Published in late autumn 2000, Destiny's Child, the single Independent Women Part II , the film song for the hit movie 3 Charlie's Angels and as a harbinger of their third album Survivor , which was released in May 2001 and both in the United States , Great Britain and in Germany , Austria of and Switzerland topped the album charts. The record sold over 4 million copies in the USA alone by the end of 2001 and produced three more hit singles with Survivor , Bootylicious and Emotion (a cover version of the Bee Gees ). After the subsequent world tour, the band members parted ways in favor of solo careers in 2002 for the time being.

Two years later, in 2004, Rowland, Knowles and Williams met again to record their fourth studio album, Destiny Fulfilled . The album sold more than 8 million copies worldwide and produced further top 10 hits with the singles Lose My Breath , Soldier , Girl and Cater 2 U.
