Sean Garrett

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sean Garrett (* the 30th March 1979 in Atlanta , Georgia as Garrett Hamler ) is an American songwriter , R & B - singer and music producer .

Career

Sean Garrett was born in Atlanta but moved to Europe with his family when he was four. The reason was the father, who was in the US military and was stationed in different bases in Germany and England. After appearing on some talent shows, he got a recording deal with Ariola when he was 17 . However, when he returned to the United States a few years later, he was to sign with Warner Bros. Records . However, shortly before the contract was signed, the label's black music department was dissolved, so the deal did not materialize. Frustrated that, he initially refrained from the music scene and made a College Accounts at the University of Maryland and began as a mortgage broker in South Carolina to work.

Garrett began to write songs again, some of which he recorded and some of which were played on the radio. Some people in charge of the music industry now pushed him to work as a songwriter for other artists. However, he refused because he saw himself as a singer at the time. He changed his mind when he moved to Atlanta and his mother Rita passed away. LA Reid finally signed him as a songwriter in 2003. There he had his breakthrough with the single Yeah! , sung by Usher , who topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 weeks . In the following years he worked with numerous successful artists and had several number one hits in the USA. He used this to start his solo career. He released the single Grippin ' in 2008 , recorded with Ludacris , which heralded his debut album Turbo 919 , which was released on May 27 that year. The song peaked at number 40 on the US R&B charts.

The single What Them Girls Like , on which Garrett collaborated with Ludacris and Chris Brown , rose to number 17 on the R&B charts and number 33 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the summer of 2008. Break Up , a feature starring Mario and Gucci Mane , became the Garrett's greatest success as a singer. The single climbed to number 2 on the R&B charts and number 14 on the Hot 100. In 2010, even smaller hits followed in the R&B charts: Get It All and Massive Attack (both with Nicki Minaj ) and Feel Love (with J. Cole and Drake ).

The last chart listing as a singer came in 2011 with In da Box , a feature with Rick Ross , at number 54 on the R&B charts. In the same year Garrett was also part of the Artists for Haiti , a charity project of various performers for the benefit of the victims of the earthquake disaster of January 12, 2010 . The re-recording of the 1980s benefit hit We Are the World made it to number 2 on the US singles chart.
