Lil Wayne
Lil Wayne , also known as Weezy and Lil Tunechi , (born September 27, 1982 in New Orleans , Louisiana ; real name Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. ) is an American rapper and label founder of Young Money .
Life
Lil Wayne grew up in poor circumstances in New Orleans. At the age of 11 he was signed by his foster father Birdman with the southern label Cash Money Records . As a 12-year-old, he accidentally shot himself in the chest with a pistol and was in mortal danger for several months. His stepfather, who was responsible for this accident, was sentenced to six months in prison.
Six years later, Cash Money Records formed the group Hot Boys , consisting of members Lil Wayne, BG , Juvenile and Turk. The Hot Boys released three albums and the first, Get It How U Live , was a huge hit in the hip-hop scene, selling 400,000 copies. The following album Guerilla Warfare reached number 5 on the US album charts and received a platinum award. The third album, Let 'Em Burn , sold over 500,000 copies.
In 2004 Lil Wayne released the album Tha Carter and the accompanying single "Go DJ", with which he became known outside the Dirty South .
On December 6, 2005, the successor "Tha Carter II" was released. This album brought Lil Wayne for the first time massively positive criticism and placed very well in the US charts. Singles from the album are "Fireman", "Hustler Musik" and "Shooter".
On June 10, 2008 his solo album " Tha Carter III " was released. The single Lollipop (featuring Static Major ) was released on May 30, 2008. Both the album and the single reached number 1 on the respective US charts. Both brought him success abroad for the first time and were also able to place themselves in the European charts. As a songwriter for Lollipop , Lil Wayne received the Grammy Award for Best Rap Song along with Stephen Garrett , Darius Harrison , Jim Jonsin and Rex Zamor .
In 2010 his seventh studio album, Rebirth, was released . Well-known artists such as Eminem , Kevin Rudolf and Travis Barker are represented on the album, which contains 12 songs in the standard edition and 14 songs in the deluxe edition . With Furthermore, Nicki Minaj and Shanell artists from his label Young Money Entertainment to hear on the album. Rebirth rose to number 2 on the Billboard 200 with 176,000 copies sold .
In the same year the album "I Am Not A Human Being" was released, which musically corresponded to his previous music. In the time between the release of the album "Rebirth" and "I Am Not A Human Being", Lil Wayne had to serve an eight-month prison sentence. This album had already been recorded before the arrest. The reason for Wayne's arrest was an investigation into his tour bus in 2007, which found a loaded gun in addition to marijuana . On March 8, 2010, he then had to begin the sentence. “I Am Not A Human Being” was released in October and the main feature guests are his “YoungMoney colleagues”. This also included Drake , with whom there were plans for a collaboration album between the two artists. So far, however, nothing has appeared.
In 2011 Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter IV" was released. The “Deluxe Edition” contains 18 titles. Featured guests include Rick Ross , Drake, Jadakiss , Bruno Mars & T-Pain . The album topped the Billboard 200 along with “Tha Carter III” . According to an announcement by label boss Birdman , the albums "Rebirth", "We Are Young Money" and "Tha Carter IV" should be released on December 15, 2009. According to Mack Maine, the extremely late date for “Tha Carter IV” is said to have been due to the “perfecting” of the album. That year he had revenues of more than $ 23 million.
In 2013 the second part of "I Am Not A Human Being" was published. The album features Future , Drake, Nicki Minaj & 2 Chainz , among others . The album cover was designed by rapper Kanye West and depicts a red moth. It is Lil Wayne's 10th studio album and the “Deluxe Edition” contains 17 tracks. The album was originally supposed to be released in autumn 2012, then in February 2013 and finally it was released on March 26, 2013. For his work, unused material from the work of his "Carter 3" and "Carter 4" projects was used.
At the beginning of 2014 his probably last studio album "Tha Carter 5" was announced, but the date was postponed several times. There is no detailed information about why the dates are being postponed. In February 2015 it was announced that Lil Wayne had not got along well with his ex-mentor Birdman for a long time and that he would like to leave the label. Instead of his long-awaited album, he released a free mixtape called Sorry for the Wait 2 in February .
In September 2016, the rapper announced on Twitter that it was getting too much for him and that he now wanted to end his career.
A few days later he released his new single Grateful , which is all about Birdman and Cash Money Records .
In February 2020, Lil Wayne took part as a robot in the third season of the US offshoot of The Masked Singer , in which he was the first participant to drop out.
