Tha Carter III is the sixth studio album by US rapper Lil Wayne . It was released on June 10, 2008 on Cash Money Records . With 2.88 million units sold, it is the best-selling album of 2008 in the US . Tha Carter III went double platinum just a month after it was released . To date, over 3.4 million copies have been sold worldwide. Some songs on Tha Carter III will have to appear, were already on the Internet and were previously as The Leak - EP released. These songs were later added to the LP as a Deluxe Edition .
Singles
The first single Lollipop (ft. Static Major ) is also Lil Wayne's most successful single to date . She topped the US Billboard Top 100 for five weeks . In Germany the song reached number 22 in the German single charts . Lollipop appeared two weeks after Static Major died from complications during surgery. The single was awarded four times platinum by the RIAA . On April 22nd, Lil Wayne released the single A Milli exclusively in North America . The song ranked # 6 in the United States. A Milli was named MTV's 2008 Hip-Hop Song of the Year. Just about a month later, on May 27th, Got Money , a collaboration with T-Pain, was released . The single became the second single to enter the German charts, reaching number 67, while it reached number 10 in the United States. The Got Money video was shot on the same day as the A Milli clip . In addition to the follow-up single Mrs. Officer (feat. Bobby Valentino ), which reached number 16 in the USA and whose video is a continuation of the music videos for A Milli and Got Money , the singles You Ain't Got Nothin ' (feat. Fabolous and Juelz Santana ), Mr. Carter (feat. Jay-Z ) and Comfortable (feat. Babyface ) on the Billboard Hot 100.

Almost unanimously, Tha Carter III was voted one of the most important and best hip-hop albums of 2008 in the USA. Blender magazine named the LP the best album of the year, Rolling Stone magazine selected Tha Carter III as 3rd in the "Top 50 Albums of the Year" and in 2012 at No. 437 on its list of the 500 best albums of all time . The German music portals were divided. While cdstarts.de only gave 6.5 out of 10 points, the album achieved 8 points at laut.de and 7 points at plattentests.de . The rating calculated by Metacritic is 84%.
At the 2009 Grammy Awards , Tha Carter III was recognized in the Best Rap Album category.
