I Can Transform Ya is a song by the American musician Chris Brown . The rappers and hip-hop musicians Lil Wayne and Swizz Beatz are involved in the title as guest musicians, the latter also acted as a producer. On September 29, 2009, the song was released as the first single from Brown's third studio album, Graffiti, which was released in December .

background

According to Swizz Beatz, the song was originally supposed to be called "Transformer". The song is also Brown's first release since the incident with his girlfriend at the time, the musician Rihanna . Brown had assaulted them at the time. Producer Swizz Beatz also commented on Lil Wayne's post , saying that “The Wayne part is out of the question. It's probably his best feature verse (guest post) since his involvement in the remix of It's Me (Bitches) . ”The song was supposed to be released on September 30, 2009, but Brown then announced on Twitter for no reason that that it will be published the day before.

Music video

background

The music video was shot by Joseph Kahn . Kahn was also responsible for the visualization of the song Forever . The director also said in an interview that Brown played him some songs from his Graffiti album on the set of the music video for the song Drop It Low , on which Brown supported the singer Ester Dean as a guest musician , and already had clear ideas about a video for the first single would have had. He also said the video, with its kung fu elements, special effects, sci-fi scenes and cars, accurately reflected his and Brown's interests.

In October 2009, Brown posted some photos of the video on the Internet. This happened on the same day that Rihanna presented her music video for the single Russian Roulette , which has been largely criticized by the media.

content

The video begins with a scene in which Brown transforms from a black sports car into himself and then sprays the title of the song on the screen, which is supposed to be an indirect reference to his album Graffiti . The video, which is very focused on Brown's dance movements, is set against an entirely white background. Veiled ninjas can be seen around him again and again . There are also some other transformations on display, including those that create motorbikes and helicopters. The two guest musicians Swizz Beatz and Lil Wayne can also be seen in the video, with the latter playing an electric guitar . Tyrese Gibson , who in the film series Transformers the role of sergeants representing Robert Epps, also has a guest appearance in the music video.

reception

Jocelyn Vena of MTV described the video as "shiny and fast." James Montgomery called it a "shiny and sexy flashback". He was also of the opinion that it is “a blockbuster that is packed with amazing special effects - the transformations that give it its name look particularly good, especially those that happen from one scene to another - and terrifyingly precise dance moves.” One reviewer of Entertainment Weekly said that the cut while afloat look, however somehow grossly anfühle.

success

reception

The song was generally well received, with Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune calling it a “club banger”. Thomas Gonlianpoulous , author of a review for Spin magazine , praised the "bombastic production of Swizz Beatz, Wayne's dynamic, previously nonsensical rap, and Brown's joyous, lively singing." Leah Greenblatt rated the single as a "boastful lead single". Jude Rogers called the song a "memorable" one, but also noted that it also seemed like a "pale imitation of a song from an album by Justin Timberlake ".
