The song was recorded at Westlake Recording Studios in West Hollywood .

Brown later commented on the collaboration: “Having the opportunity to work with Bieber was great. He's a young, energetic cat so the opportunity to work with him with the fanbase he owns was incredible. I know a lot of little girls will love this album. [...] He does his thing at such a young age and I did mine at a young age so the chance to see his rise is cool. "

Music video

On May 10, 2011, the manager of Bieber announced that a music video was planned. In May, Colin Tilley , an American music video director, announced that he would soon be making a music video for the single. It was eventually filmed at Universal Studios in Los Angeles , with Tilley directing as planned. On May 21, Brown posted two pictures of the shoot on the Internet. An unfinished version of the video leaked on June 6th . The official video was first shown on June 17th.

The video begins with a scene in which Brown and Bieber can be seen with their friends. The song "All Back", also found on Brown's album FAME , is played in the background . Bieber's girlfriend is then told, “You will never see him again. Did you understand that? ”Taken from her father. Brown is shown thinking of his girlfriend, played by Shannon Elizabeth . Immediately afterwards, images of the apocalypse set in , which is represented by broken streets, collapsing buildings and flames. In the next scene, Brown is looking for his girlfriend, who is hit by a car. He eventually saves her by jumping over cracks in the street. The video ends with the two couples reunited. Throughout the course, individual sequences can be seen in which the two singers dance in the midst of the destruction.

success

reception

Entertainment Weekly's Brad Wete described the song as "throbbing". Joanne Dorken from MTV praised Bieber's contribution: Everything was touched, seemed to turn to gold, and this cheesy song was no exception. In addition, Dorken emphasized "how well the song shows the mixing of the voices of the two". A radio show reviewer WXRK asked the following rhetorical question, "What do you get when you combine two of the best-looking / great dancers, Bieber's sexy rubbing [of] Bieber's voice, and a dance-jam love song?" In response, she wrote that to achieve “a combination of the best elements of music”. Regarding the lyrics, Eliot Glazer felt that these were "not new, but still pretty".

Commercial win

The song entered the US charts for the first time immediately after the release of the album FAME due to high digital sales and reached number 26. The following week, the song fell to position 90 on the Billboard Hot 100 , after which it slipped completely off the hit lists . After its public release as a single in June 2011, the song entered the US charts again for a week and reached number 94. In Germany, the single was able to stay in the charts for a total of ten weeks, reaching a top position of 28th.
